Facial odour occurs to women who have very oily and acne-prone skin. Everyone wants to smell good all the time and facial odour can take a toll on your confidence level as you would always maintain distance with people to avoid unwanted consequences. Today, we’re going to learn the scientific facts of facial odour and how to overcome it. Follow these tips for healthy, oil-free glowing skin. Keep scrolling!

1. Sebum doesn’t cause facial odour:

The sebaceous glands are tiny glands in the skin which produce an oily/waxy substance, called sebum, to moisturise the skin and hair. These glands are found in greatest amounts on the face and scalp. Sebum has no smell, but its bacterial breakdown can produce a bad smell. Excess sebum can be caused by fried and oily foods.

2. Clean your skin:

Dermatologists recommend washing your face twice a day with a gentle cleanser to help remove excess oil, bacteria and dirt. Wash your face with hot water and gentle cleanser to prevent the pores from being clogged.

3. Moisturise your face:

Yes that’s right. Your skin may be very oily but it still needs moisturiser. Sebum has a purpose and its sole purpose is to moisturise dry skin. If you don’t moisturise your skin, the skin will produce more sebum to moisturise it. Try a oil-free moisturiser which is non-comedogenic. This way you will regulate the production of sebum on your skin. Also, the skin will thank you for it. The result will be less oily, acne-free and glowing skin.

4. Don’t touch your face:

Since most of us work either at home or outside, our hands contains germs and bacteria and when you touch the face, your skin will come in contact with the bacteria and it can cause acne or other skin issues. For a healthy flawless skin, it’s best advised to keep your hands off your face.

5. Use products which contain salicylic acid:

This acid penetrates into oily skin and clogged pores, resulting in a deep cleansing. Salicylic acid also helps in reducing sebum secretion, which will also keep odour at bay. It is the best solution for acne and scars as it naturally exfoliate the skin. It is also anti-inflammatory, which can help calm inflamed acne. Use a face wash which contains salicylic acid to cleanse your pores and keep excessive sebum off your face.

6. Keep your face sweat free:

Sweat doesn’t cause acne, however sweating releases an antibacterial protein that kills common bacteria that may cause acne. It is recommended to keep your face sweat free and try using a organic wet wipe to keep your skin surface clean! Or use wet cotton pads if your skin is too sensitive to wet wipes. Tip: Don’t wash your face excessively as it will cause more sebum production and if your skin is too oily, blot with a tissue paper.

7. Don’t skip your bed-beauty routine:

People with most healthy skin follow a simple yet effective bed beauty routine which hardly takes 5 minutes! That is removing makeup-cleansing-night cream. Incorporate this routine and you could see improvement in your skin. Removing makeup with a gentle makeup remover is very very important. Next step is washing your face with a good cleanser and the final step is using a good night gel/creams to repair your skin from within. Follow these steps to treat facial odour and it will also keep your skin acne and oil-free. If the problem persists still, visit a dermatologist.
