Cleansing is the most important step in any skincare routine. It sets the base for the entire skincare routine. So, you rubbed and scrubbed your face at night and used many serums, lotions, and facial oils right before you dozed off. But, is it really worth it to repeat the entire process and wash your face again once you wake up? The lazy girl in me says, “NO”. But let’s hear it from the experts. HealthShots got in touch with Vipin Sharma, Senior Product and Research Manager at Fixderma India Pvt Ltd, who revealed if it’s necessary to cleanse your face after waking up. Sharma says “Your skin can be either oily, dry, normal or acne-prone. Based on your skin type, your skin will react in the morning. Oily skin will wake up to a lot of sebum and grease on the face in the morning. Dry skin will wake up dehydrated unless moisturized well at night and so on. But, one thing is common in all skin types; Cleaning up the pores and removing the traces of your night time skincare routine in the morning.” “A lot of products of the night time skincare routine consist of exfoliating agents, and retinol which should be removed properly in the morning to ensure no reaction with the sun. It always gives a clean base for your daytime skincare routine.” Sharma told HealthShots One can always prefer a gentle cleanser in the morning but the important factor is to ensure cleaning your pores from within and removing residues from skin to ensure no pore clogging and accumulation of dead cells. Dr Kaustav Guha Director, skin expert, R&D Division, SkinKraft Labs, told HealthShots about the importance of cleansing your skin in the morning as well. It is always advisable to wash your face in the morning even if you have cleansed it the night before for many reasons: 1. At night we might be using night creams that contain actives such as retinol which are not recommended to be used in the morning so it is essential to wash your face in the morning to remove those residual creams/serum.

2. It’s also important to remove oil/sebum which gets accumulated overnight

3. Washing face in the morning helps to remove bacteria which lurks on pillowcases 4. A clean face also gives a good base for our morning skin care regime.

How long is it OK to go without washing your hair?

For the average person, every other day, or every 2 to 3 days, without washing is generally fine. “There is no blanket recommendation. If hair is visibly oily, scalp is itching, or there's flaking due to dirt,” those are signs it's time to shampoo, Goh says.

Maybe you’ve heard shampooing less often is better for your hair. Or perhaps you’re thinking of ditching shampoo and joining the “no ‘poo” movement in search of healthier, better looking hair. Experts say there's no single answer to how often people should shampoo. You may not need to do it as often as you think. It usually comes down to personal preference. For guidance, take a look at your hair type and styling choices. “I have always said, ‘It’s fine to go a few days without shampooing,’” says Alli Webb, professional hair stylist and founder of Drybar. “For hair that’s normal in terms of oiliness and medium weight, I sometimes tell my clients to go as long as they can without shampooing.” The idea behind this? Shampooing too often may lead to hair that’s less than lush.
