Let’s begin with a question for everyone reading this; what do you think is the most important organ in the human body? Many people would probably think it’s the heart, however, it’s the brain! While your heart is a vital organ, the brain (and the nervous system that attaches to the brain) make up the most critical organ system in the human body. The human nervous system is responsible for coordinating every movement and action your body makes. More importantly, it controls every function inside the human body as well. For your heart to beat, your lungs to breath, and your feet to walk, your nervous system must be functioning properly. The main part of your treatment in this office is through a chiropractic "adjustment". We all know that an adjustment will help us feel better, have less pain, move easier, have fewer headaches, etc.… but we must remember that the adjustments serve a much higher purpose. The most important effect of the adjustments is to remove misalignments of the spine called “subluxations”. A subluxation causes interference, and the nervous system and body are unable to communicate with each other and function properly. Adjustments remove the pressure, or interference, on the nervous system allowing it to function at 100%. Here are a few of the many amazing facts about your body and the nervous system: 1. The body's intelligence develops the brain and spinal cord first!! This occurs within the first 18 days of conception 2. The brain and spinal cord are so valuable and delicate that they are the only organs encased and protected by bone (i.e. the skull and vertebrae of the spine) 3. An adult brain weighs about 3 pounds, and about 75% of that weight comes from water.

4. The human brain contains approximately one hundred billion neurons (nerve cells)

5. The central nervous system sends vitally important messages between your brain and body at a rate of up to 325 mph through 45 miles of nerves 6. In a 24-hour period, the communication between the brain and nervous system will assist the heart in beating 103,680 times 7. The communication between the brain and nervous system will pump 2,100 gallons of blood through nearly 62,000 miles of blood vessels in one day 8. The brain and nervous system will assist you in breathing 23,040 times each day 9. 7,000,000 brain cells will be exercised between the brain and nervous system 10. In a 24-hour period, the communication between the brain and nervous system will assist the body in producing 69 trillion red blood cells. Now that we have a better understanding of how important our nervous system is, we can understand why we need adjustments. If your nervous system is out of alignment, you’ll likely have pain and/or health problems. Now for another question, if you bought a new car, would you get it tuned up regularly (every 3,000 miles?) I’m sure for most people, the answer would be yes. Just like a new car, our bodies’ nervous system needs occasional tune-ups to help it function properly. Regular adjustments allow your body to perform, heal, regulate and adapt appropriately to the many stresses of everyday life. Next time you take your car in for an oil change, consider that it also might be time to make an appointment for a tune up of your own!

Is Oatmeal good for detox?

Eating oatmeal is a safe way to cleanse your colon. Oats are one of the best cleansing foods because of their high fiber content. Whole-grain oats are way better than the refined variety. Oats and oat bran increase stool weight and often ease constipation.
