When we think of celebrities who put loving their bodies and taking care of their overall mental and physical health first, we think of Selena Gomez. In October 2015, it was announced that Gomez had been diagnosed with lupus, and she's since been very vocal about her struggles and advocacy for body positivity. "It wasn't about how I gained weight; it was about how I embraced it, and that's just kind of my approach," she told Ryan Seacrest on his radio show On Air With Ryan Seacrest. So how does the singer and actress keep a healthy diet? We turned to Gomez's trainer, wellness expert Amy Rosoff Davis, to ask her what the singer ate to stay healthy and strong during a demanding tour schedule.

She chooses foods for stamina...

"Last year on Selena's revival tour, I made sure the dressing room always had veggies and protein and brown rice or whole grains," Davis says. "I made a lot of rice bowls with veggies, protein, and avocado for Selena. It helped give her energy and stamina, which she needed to get through her shows. I also made healthy chicken salad with grapes and celery—it quenched her thirst and the protein filled her up. We always drank lots of water and had green tea when we needed a pick me up—it sure was exhausting at times."

And good quality, fresh ingredients...

As for general diet tips, she says the most important thing is to make sure your ingredients are fresh. "I am all about focusing on good-quality fresh ingredients. Real food is so much yummier than something that comes out of a box or bag. I recommend going to your local farmers market or trying to buy organic veggies and fruits and hormone-free/grass-fed meat at the grocery store," she says. "I personally think learning a few basic skills in the kitchen is super beneficial to your waistline. When you know what goes into your food you are more likely going to make better choices."

But doesn't get too wrapped up in food choices...

But she also stresses that we shouldn't drive ourselves crazy over what we eat. "Learn a few recipes and see what you like," she says. "Don't obsess about what you can't or shouldn't eat, focus on what good stuff you want to eat and how to make it yummy." She also preaches the importance of sleep and drinking lots of water. "Most people skimp on both of these things and rely on caffeine. Your body needs rest so it can restore and regenerate," she says. Water helps your body and function properly, not to mention it is good for your skin, digestion, metabolism, etc. These two tips are easy to implement and will get you feeling good in no time. Even if you can get to bed 30 minutes earlier and remember to drink one extra glass of water it will make a difference." So there you have it. Gomez doesn't eat magical things to stay healthy and fit. It's all about being mindful, making good choices, and having fun while you make your own food.
