When we think about sugar we need to picture our body as a roller coaster. When we have sugar, we are up, we are bumpin’, movin’, shakin’ doin’ and when we stop eating that sugar we crash down in a scary, heart pounding, hands shaking, sweating type of way. Put that s*** on repeat, add more sugar (because you’re now an addict and NEED more), and experience more extreme highs and lows. This is the cycle our mental and physical health rips through as we eat sugar on a regular basis. Okay, so maybe your addiction isn’t that serious, but I have been there. I have been half way through a road trip realizing I had just bought out the entire gas station’s 5 cent candy bins and I needed to make a change fast… **slowly rolls down the window, and tosses candy into the depths of Highway 6** I am serious, it’s bad and it’s proven that s**** (yes, sugar shall not be named) is absolutely terrible for our physical and mental health. Y’all have probably noticed by now that I am not a pusher, I don’t believe that a one type of “diet” program fits all, I don’t believe in miracle products, or fad based programming, but I do believe that sugar is an absolute f*** boy when it comes to our health.

The insulin helps remove the sugar from the blood to bring our blood sugar levels back to a “normal” state. Think of insulin as the key to using sugar for energy. When we ingest too much sugar, our insulin cannot use it all up for energy, we store some for later, and the rest turns into fat. When our blood sugar level drops (from an extreme high) this makes us HANGRY. To get our blood sugar back up to a “normal” state we crave more sugar, which creates a repeat in the cycle. It’s like the song Body by Loud Luxury, it just keeps playing over and over and over again **eye roll**.

You also want to avoid the saturated fat found in fatty meats, full-fat dairy, and fried foods, as people with type 2 diabetes have an increased risk of getting heart disease.” A healthy diet for diabetes will also help you manage your weight or lose weight if you’re overweight, which is important, because losing just 10 to 15 pounds may help you prevent and manage high blood sugar, according to the American Diabetes Association. Research shows that losing some weight can also help improve insulin sensitivity, meaning you’re less resistant and better able to respond to insulin, Kimberlain explains. A small study published in June 2017 in Nutrition & Diabetes showed sustained enhanced insulin sensitivity in successful female weight-loss maintainers compared with those who had no history of weight loss.
