Have you had it with your exhaustive but fruitless attempts to lose that last little bit of stubborn fat? We recommend you think beyond what you can do with yourself and consider a technique to fat freezing treatment . At Franklin Laser in Franklin, TN, we offer CoolSculpting to patients who are finally ready to get the body they want.

What Is CoolSculpting?

This non-invasive therapy uses targeted temperatures to freeze fat in specific treatment areas. A session can last between 35 minutes and an hour, depending on the size of your treatment site, and with time, you’ll see a trimmer appearance. This technique is highly advanced, meaning you don’t need to worry about your skin being damaged during treatment. Fat cells die at lower temperatures than those of skin or other organs. We can therefore help remove unwanted wobbles without surgery, downtime, or unpleasant side effects.

What Happens During a Session?

We begin your session by placing applicators on your skin in a way that sandwiches fat. As these applicators, or paddles, adhere to your body, you’ll feel a slight sucking sensation followed by cooling. You can use your treatment time to relax, so come prepared with a book, phone, or tablet. Or, if you prefer, you can simply sit there and rest. We’ll detach the applicator after your session is finished. This will be followed by a brief massage on the treatment area to help the targeted fat cells break apart. The body then recognizes those cells as waste products and eventually expels them through the lymphatic system. It’s important to keep in mind this process occurs slowly, but your patience will be rewarded.

How Many Sessions Do You Need to Freeze Fat Away?

The answer to this question depends on the amount of stubborn fat you want to eliminate. One session is normally enough for smaller areas, but if you want to treat a larger area or have a little more fat to address, two or three treatments may be necessary. In general, most people achieve their desired results after two sessions. Theoretically, you can schedule several sessions to treat a specific area. CoolSculpting is safe and typically delivers the desired results within two or three procedures. But we understand that everyone responds to therapy a little differently and will therefore craft a comprehensive treatment plan to help achieve your aesthetic goals.

Weight and Treatment Sites Are Factors

Two factors that heavily influence the number of sessions you’ll need are weight and treatment sites. If you are within 20 or 30 pounds of your ideal weight, one or two treatments should be enough to remove unwanted bulges. It is important to keep in mind that CoolSculpting is not intended to help you lose weight. While you may shed a few pounds after treatment, the real goal is to trim and add definition to treatment sites. We recommend that you not plan to have multiple treatments as a way to shed pounds. The therapy simply doesn’t work this way, and knowing that ahead of time will help you maintain realistic expectations. Also, keep in mind that larger treatment areas may require more time to show the results you want.

The Right Equipment Is Necessary

CoolSculpting uses applicators that, once connected to the skin, create gentle suction. The applicators we use depend on your treatment site. A smaller applicator, for example, is ideal for the chin, while larger applicators are required for areas like the thighs and abdomen. Equipment is important because a single applicator machine can extend treatment time and sessions. Our office offers DualSculpting so that if you want to trim unwanted fat from your thighs, we can treat both legs at the same time. This eliminates the need for you to sit through treatment in which each leg is treated individually. The same is true of love handles and other dual-faceted treatment areas.

Treatment Demands Patience

CoolSculpting works with your body’s natural processes, which we’ll shortly explain in greater detail. But for this reason, results take time to develop. We recommend waiting at least 30 days after treatment to see how your body is coming along; four months is ideally when full effects become visible. It is therefore best to let time lapse between treatment before choosing to undergo another session. Most patients begin to see changes to their appearance in about two weeks. Additionally, you can have multiple areas treated at the same time; we only suggest waiting with regard to re-treating the same area.

Your Unique Results

The results you see after your first session will weigh heavily on whether or not you need additional sessions. Studies show that CoolSculpting can reduce the fat cells in a specific area by 25 percent. It’s possible, however, that after your first session, you may only lose 10 or 15 percent of cells. This is a strong indicator that another session would be beneficial. Every fat cell within the body contains two different receptors: Alpha-2 or Beta-2. Only one of these receptors is dominant in each, and their differences reflect how they are used. Alpha-2 receptors prompt cells to store fat. Beta-2 receptors encourage cells to burn fat for the body’s immediate use. The messages from these receptors therefore dictate how cells respond to diet and exercise.

Formation of Fat Pockets

Fat cells are distributed throughout the body, but some areas are predisposed to more alpha cells. Those parts are also more resistant to traditional fat-loss methods, meaning you can exercise all you want, but you may be unable to shed the extra pounds in your abdomen, for example, simply because of body chemistry. What other areas are prone to stubborn fat pockets? The thighs, hips, back, and that little spot under your chin. The face, arms, and legs usually represent areas where you can more easily lose extra padding. We attribute this to the beta cells that generally populate these sites.

CoolSculpting Is the Answer

We tell you this so you understand that sometimes, getting the flat stomach or sculpted thighs you want isn’t possible without help. The decision to freeze fat away can be the answer, especially if you’ve tried every other imaginable technique. The benefits of this therapy include natural-looking results that develop gradually, mimicking the effects of exercise. As stated easier, you can also treat multiple areas to give you the sleek, sculpted body you want. This, in turn, can boost your self-esteem so that you portray a sense of confidence to the rest of the world. Being thin doesn’t necessarily mean you feel good about your appearance, especially if you feel like fat pockets are standing between you and the figure you could have.

Long-lasting Results

Another benefit of techniques that freeze fat away is long-lasting results. They can, in fact, be permanent, if you manage your weight and maintain a healthy lifestyle. Once they die, fat cells do not regenerate. Those cells expelled by the body after your CoolSculpting treatment are gone for good, which is how we’re able to provide you with a trimmer and more defined body. But the cells that remain can expand if you start to gain weight. This can have a negative impact on your results, so developing lifelong habits of eating nutritious foods and staying physically active is critical.

What You Should Know

CoolSculpting eliminates fat cells, but it is not intended to treat loose skin. We have therapies that can treat skin laxity, which can be used to complement your CoolSculpting results. Also, keep in mind that fat freezing does not cause loose skin. This treatment is intended to smooth your contours, not give way to significant weight loss. Most patients report that treatment sessions are comfortable. Massaging helps disperse the cells so they are small enough to be processed through the lymphatic system.

This Treatment vs Liposuction

Techniques that freeze fat away are not the same as liposuction. The latter takes a surgical approach to eliminate excess fat. During the procedure, small incisions are made to allow a narrow suction tool access to subcutaneous fat. Patients are generally sedated and then need a short recovery period, meaning some downtime is required. CoolSculpting does not involve any invasive techniques. You can resume normal activities immediately after treatment, and most patients even return to work. This makes it an ideal alternative for patients who aren’t keen on surgery.

Ways to Help Your Results

With a little diligence, you can maximize your CoolSculpting results and further improve the contours of your body. Start by resting so your body can fully rejuvenate after therapy. Although this is a non-invasive treatment, it does ignite processes in the body that can drain your energy. Get plenty of sleep and allow your body time to again function normally.

Wear a Compression Garment

A compression garment can allow you to comfortably wear clothes without irritating your treatment area. It can also relieve any discomfort you may feel and help the body recover just a little more quickly.

Attend a Follow-up Appointment

Returning to our office several weeks after treatment can allow us to review your progress. We can also use that time to determine a future course of action, whether you want to have additional CoolSculpting sessions on the same treatment area, move to another area, or opt for a skin tightening therapy (should you need it). Our goal is to help you look and feel your best.

Maintain Your Healthy Lifestyle

We’ve already discussed this, but it’s worth circling back to repeat. Diet and exercise don’t provide targeted treatment, but they do eliminate fat throughout the body. They also improve your overall health, with benefits that include:

Reduced risk for cardiovascular disease

Reduced risk for diabetes

Stronger bones and muscles

Improved mental health and mood

Reduced stress levels

Cataloging your progress with pictures is a great way to help you see how far you’ve come. We recommend you take a picture of yourself right before treatment and then every two weeks. This will also help you see the gradual improvements that may not be as obvious in the mirror. These pictures can then be used later to remind you that a healthy lifestyle really does pay dividends.

Stay Hydrated

Water is the essence of life. Staying hydrated can plump your skin, provide a boost of energy, and relieve headaches. It also helps flush toxins out of the body. After treatment, it’s important to drink water as a way to help your body eliminate frozen fat cells.

Step Into the Cold

A little cold never hurt anyone, especially those who want to freeze fat away. CoolSculpting is targeted, safe, and effective. Call Franklin Laser in Franklin, TN, today to learn how it can help you eliminate stubborn fat.
