Orange juice -- whether made fresh or from frozen concentrate -- contributes to your fruit intake, with each cup providing half of the recommended daily fruit intake for men and two-thirds for women, according to U.S. Department of Agriculture guidelines. While orange juice frozen concentrate offers some advantages, such as a long shelf life and easy storage, it provides less nutritional value than fresh orange juice. Practice food safety if you opt for fresh orange juice, because it can serve as a breeding ground for pathogens. Store it in the fridge as soon as possible, and consume it within three days.

Nutritional Similarities

A 1-cup serving of orange juice made fresh or from frozen concentrate contains 112 calories, or approximately 6 percent of the daily calorie intake based on a 2,000-calorie diet. Each serving of either type of orange juice provides 21 grams of naturally occurring sugars, which provide energy for your cells and also support brain, liver and muscle function. They also contain comparable amounts of lutein and zeaxanthin -- two compounds important for healthy vision -- and serve as good sources of potassium, a mineral that supports nerve function and helps control your blood pressure.

Vitamin C

Orange juice made from concentrate contains less vitamin C than fresh orange juice, though both types of orange juice provide your entire recommended daily intake, set by the Institute of Medicine. Vitamin C functions as an antioxidant, protecting you from toxic chemicals created by exposure to pollution or as a byproduct of your metabolism. Vitamin C neutralizes these compounds before they can harm your cells. It also keeps your connective tissues -- including your bones, cartilage and blood vessels -- strong. A cup of fresh orange juice contains 124 milligrams of vitamin C, while an equivalent serving of juice made from frozen concentrate contains 97 milligrams.

Vitamin A

Fresh orange juice also contains more vitamin A than its frozen, concentrated counterpart. A glass of fresh juice provides 496 international units of vitamin A -- 17 percent of the recommended daily intake for men and 21 percent for women, according to the Institute of Medicine -- while an equivalent serving of juice made from frozen concentrate offers just 266 international units. Vitamin A promotes healthy vision, supports new cell growth and keeps your immune system robust and able to fight off infection.
