A juice cleanse is a period of time where you replace your meals with fresh pressed or squeezed juices. It allows you to give your body a break from digesting normal non-liquid food sources. A juice cleanse detoxifies your body from substances that create exhaustion, indigestion, fatigue, inflammation, weight issues, skin problems, and allergies. Due to the diets many of us live by, our bodies are full of processed foods, salt, sugar and artificial ingredients. On a juice cleanse, your body is given the opportunity to rest and reset. While your body is resting, it is being provided nutrients and vitamins it needs for healthy living. A good juice cleanse is like pushing the reset button on your body, but it is a process to get the full benefits of the cleanse.

The answer can vary. One or two days can help you get back on track if you had an overindulgent weekend or after holidays such as Thanksgiving or Christmas. Three or four days is great for a first time cleanse, great for someone wanting to start a healthy lifestyle. Some people talk about eating healthy, while we would just suggest a juice cleanse. It is best to start juicing for a few days to get your body used to what you are doing. Once you start, your body will crave the juice. It knows how to process the fresh healthy juice, and you will feel healthier. Many people experience increased energy as a result of a cleanse. This positive experience will energize you to keep juicing. A five or more day juice cleanse is for the experienced juicer who really wants to thoroughly overhaul their eating habits. Extended cleanses like five or more days is long enough to detoxify and start healing any damage.

How Often Should You Do a Juice Cleanse?

It is best to do a three day juice cleanse when you feel your eating habits need to be cleansed. If you are feeling lethargic, bloated, or not like yourself, it’s a good indicator that you should do a cleanse. Some people do a cleanse every Monday to reset their body from the weekend. Others do a longer cleanse when the seasons change, or even once a year. Be in tune with your own body and what you feel is best based on how you feel. One very important NOTE: you should consult your physician before going on any type of juice cleanse because people react differently to suddenly going from a food to juice diet. YOUR DOCTOR’S APPROVAL IS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED PRIOR TO STARTING ANY JUICE CLEANSE.

Does fasting heal liver?

Larance Lab research “We know that fasting can be an effective intervention to treat disease and improve liver health.

Australian researchers have used state-of-the-art analytical tools to understand how intermittent fasting works on the liver to help prevent disease. The findings will help medical scientists working in cancer, cardiovascular and diabetes research develop new interventions to lower disease risk and discover the optimum intervals for fasting. In experiments with mice, researchers led by Dr Mark Larance at the University of Sydney identified how every-other-day fasting affected proteins in the liver, showing unexpected impact on fatty acid metabolism and the surprising role played by a master regulator protein that controls many biological pathways in the liver and other organs. “We know that fasting can be an effective intervention to treat disease and improve liver health. But we haven’t known how fasting reprograms liver proteins, which perform a diverse array of essential metabolic functions,” said Dr Larance, a Cancer Institute of NSW Future Research Fellow in the Charles Perkins Centre and School of Life and Environmental Sciences at the University of Sydney. “By studying the impact on proteins in the livers of mice, which are suitable human biological models, we now have a much better understanding of how this happens.” In particular, the researchers found that the HNF4-(alpha) protein, which regulates a large number of liver genes, plays a previously unknown role during intermittent fasting. “For the first time we showed that HNF4-(alpha) is inhibited during intermittent fasting. This has downstream consequences, such as lowering the abundance of blood proteins in inflammation or affecting bile synthesis. This helps explain some of the previously known facts about intermittent fasting,” Dr Larance said.
