They grow on very different kinds of plants, in locales far apart from each other, so there's no tradition for combining them. Papaya with pineapple seems more geographically appropriate -- or apples and pears. Nevertheless, the tastes and textures of these two fruits together work a special sweet magic that seems to cut down on the need for added sugar. As a simple experiment, try spooning a little undiluted pineapple juice concentrate into unsweetened applesauce -- or vice versa: thawed undiluted apple juice concentrate into fresh or canned unsweetened crushed or diced pineapple.
